They’ve Been Handled

July 1, 2010

I was feeling a bit like we were the Energizer Bunnies–we just kept going, and going, and going, and going–which actually has produced some tremendous results!

In fact, we’ve been busy with so many different house projects that I haven’t even had time to share the updates with you (so feel free to skip to the end if you just want more of the fantastic before & afters).  Of course, the lack of posts are not entirely related to the fact that we have been so busy working on the house.  It’s related to several things–the first of which is my newfound obsession with kickboxing at 24Hr and the second of which was Chris and I getting away for a weekend–and the third of which is my steadfast devotion to watching the Bachelor/Bachelorette with some of my girlfriends every Monday night for over two years.  So that you know (beyond a shadow of a doubt) that we have a life outside of fixin’ up this house, I submit the following photos as proof:

We visited Santa Barbara for the weekend of our 5th Anniversary.  My husband is a hopeless romantic.  And he’s all mine.  Hold yourself back. =)

And then headed on to the wine country where we stopped at this fantastic overlook:

Buuuuut……back to “OurHousetory.”  When we very first moved in, we Hated (with a capital H) the cabinet pulls.  Seriously–check these things out:

Okay, so I kind of exaggerated a little.  They aren’t really that hideous.  In fact, upon further checking, we soon discovered that these bad boys will run you $4 a piece at the ole’ Home Depot.  So what does that mean?  Yeah…that’s right.  If you’re in love with them, and wishing that you had 22 of these beauts, then check eBay or Craigslist REALLY soon. 🙂

But in all seriousness, they were functional, but we couldn’t make heads or tails of the color.  Why on earth would somebody put copper pulls with stainless steel appliances?  Seriously?  Who comes up with these designs?  Of course, then we figured it out.  The previous homeowners were the ones that upgraded the kitchen and replaced the pulls (which actually went quite well with the reddish color in the granite), but it was the “House Flippers” who installed the stainless steel appliances.

So, in any event, thanks to a recent house warming gift from a family member, we were able to buy some brand new kitchen pulls for our cabinets (and still have some for more projects!).  They look AMAZING!

This time, there are no instructions for how to install cabinet pulls.  Head back over to my furniture post about the file cabinet for directions on how to do that.  Plus–I couldn’t take any pictures of the pulls being installed since I was actually in bed with a migraine while Chris took care of this project.

I know, enough, enough with the details.  Okay–I give.  Here are the new pulls in all of their glory!

Quite the difference, no?

And for those of you that are just dying to see the whole thing put together, here’s a glimpse into our kitchen:

I have several more posts in the hopper, so stay tuned for more updates and some great before & afters!

It looks great, Katie! I love the new pulls. One of the very first things I did when we moved into our house was to change the knobs on our kitchen cabinets. They were white with little blue flowers on them and I am not a little blue flower kinda gal. It’s such an easy thing to change that makes such a huge difference! Hope you guys have a great 4th of July weekend!
